Before you hit the road on your next open-road adventure, be sure to check out the following RV camper towing tips. They can help make your road trip safer and less stressful!
Practice Makes Perfect
While learning to tow an RV isn’t too difficult, you’ll still need to practice. Don’t try to figure things out as you hit the road for the first time. Instead, practice towing several weeks in advance and practice fairly frequently so you can be confident and secure when the big day comes. Find a big, empty parking lot and relearn some of the basics, such as turning, braking, parking, and reversing. You’ll also want to take advantage of a low-traffic time of day to practice important highway skills, like high-speed driving and merging.
Maintaining Your Tires
You need functioning tires to get your camper from point A to point B—both on your tow vehicle and your towable RV. You’ll want to check two simple things: first, check your tire pressure. When the pressure is low or uneven, it makes it harder to drive (and hurts your fuel efficiency). Use a tire pressure gauge to measure the pressure before and after you load everything up. Your owner’s manual will give you the specific levels to shoot for.
Second, you’ll want to check your tire tread. This helps you maintain traction with the road. But they get worn down naturally as you drive. Check your owner’s manual to know when you’ll need to replace your tires due to low tread.
